Gingerbread Cake Bars

The Holidays are officially here, and with them come all the sweet smells and savory tastes of freshly baked goodies and treats. One of those traditional Holiday flavors we all love is Gingerbread!

Whether baked up in cookies, cakes, or bread, that rich Gingerbread taste is one we always get excited about this time of year. Just as pumpkin flavored dishes fill our Autumns with pure joy, the sweet aroma of baked Gingerbread warms our soul and gets us in the mood for silver bells, red and green, and peppermint candy canes!

So imagine, if you will, a rich, soft, sponge-like bar packed full of all the Gingerbread flavor you can handle. Sounds good right? We thought so too! That's why, with a little help from our Alta Artisan Flour, we set out to create a decedent, flavorful bar that is not only tasty, but with a texture that is sure to make you melt. This is that bar! Grab your Holiday apron and turn on some jolly music, it's time for Gingerbread Cake Bars!

Ingredients:
1/2 cup Butter, melted
2 cups Milk, warm
4 Tbsp Molasses
3/4 cup Brown Sugar
4 Eggs, separated
1 Tbsp Water
1 cup Honeyville Alta Artisan Flour
3 tsp Ginger
2 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 tsp Cloves
1 tsp Vanilla

Directions:
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

Egg-and-sugar-mixture

In a large bowl, combine egg yolks and brown sugar. Beat together until smooth and combined.

Egg-whites

In a separate bowl, whip egg whites until stiff peaks form.

flour-and-spices

Add melted butter and water to egg/sugar mixture and mix until combined. Add flour, spices, and vanilla, and mix together.

milk-and-molasses

In a small measuring bowl, combine milk and molasses and mix until combined. Gently pour molasses milk into mixture and mix until full combined.

fold-in-egg-whites

Fold in egg whites evenly until there are no large lumps. At this point, your mixture should be very, very runny.

batter-in-pan

Pour mixture into your greased USA Pan Square Cake Pan.

Bake at 325 degrees for 55-60 minutes. Once finished, remove from oven (the bars will be very fluffy at this time, but will deflate as soon as they are out of the oven). Slice into bars and serve!

Rich, dense, and with a flan-like texture, these bars are packed full of Gingerbread flavor and are sure to make you weak in the knees. The flavor is absolutely amazing, but by far what makes these bars a star is the texture! That rich, dense, almost creamy center is sure to make your mouth water each time!
