Colorful lights? Check! Holiday music? Check! Sales, sales, and more sales? Double check! Yes, that festive Holiday time is nearly upon us, and truthfully, I couldn't be more excited! Why, you ask? Because with all the trees, garland, and wrapping paper, the Holiday season also brings one exciting surprise with it...lots and lots of baked goodies!

It's all that excitement that really led me to today's recipe. While I know there is still some time before most of us officially kick off the season, here at the Honeyville blog, we just couldn't wait. So, without further adieu, I give you our first Holiday post of the year, Gingerbread!

Think about it, what better way to start the Holidays off right than with a delicious, baked up loaf of this winter-time classic! And with our amazing Alta Artisan Bread Flour, which bakes any bread up light, fluffy, and full of all the quality you need, why wouldn't you want to start the season off early? So grab some garland and mistletoe, it's time to bake up your own Homemade Gingerbread Loaf!

Ingredients:
3 tsp Ground Ginger
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 tsp Nutmeg
1/4 tsp Ground Cloves
1/4 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Ground Pepper
4 sticks Butter
2 cups Molasses
2 Eggs
2 cups Sugar
1 1/2 cups Boiling Water
1 1/3 cups Sour Cream
3 Tbsp Orange Juice

Yields: 3 large Gingerbread Loafs

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Flour

In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, salt, and pepper.

Molasses

In a medium sauce pan, melt butter and molasses together. Once melted and combined, remove from heat and let cool.

Whipped-Eggs

In a large bowl, whisk together eggs and sugar with an electric hand mixer until mixture is white.

Batter

Add molasses, flour mixture, boiling water, sour cream, and orange juice, and mix together until batter forms.

Batter-in-Pans

Using a bread pan of your choice (I used molded cake pans) pour batter into pan.

Bake in oven at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes. Check to see if bread is done by inserting a clean toothpick. If toothpick comes out clean, the bread is baked completely.

Gingerbread

This traditional Holiday loaf is full of all the taste, texture, and aroma you've been wanting to get in the Christmas mood! The sweet smell of baked ginger and molasses will fill your home and send you on a gift-wrapping, light-hanging frenzy! The taste of this bread is mouth-watering. Not only does it have the perfect, sponge-like texture you expect in a cake bread, the blend of ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves, give it the perfect blend of Holiday goodness!
