What is it about warm drinks that always get us in the festive mood this time of year? Whether it's a steamy mug of Hot Cocoa or a warm cup of Spiced Cider, these delicious delights always seem to heat up our hearts and melt away the winter chill.
Growing up in Utah, I always loved my mom's homemade wassail. That delicious, spiced taste was the perfect drink after a long day of sledding, building snow forts, or just having snow ball wars with the neighborhood kids. Even now when I think back I can still smell the amazing aroma wafting through my childhood home.
With the Holiday's officially upon us, isn't it time for a warm cup of something sweet? Why not make that a cup of wassail? But not just any wassail. With the help of our Freeze Dried Apricots (yes, I said apricots) we've created the perfect wassail recipe that you simply won't be able to pass up! Grab your favorite mug, it's time for Apricot Wassail!
2 cups Honeyville Freeze Dried Apricots
4 cups Pineapple Juice
2 cups Apple Cider
1 cup Orange Juice
1 Tbsp Whole Cloves
6 Cinnamon Sticks
First, you need to prepare your apricots.
To do this, place apricots in a large, gallon-sized resealable bag and crush with a rolling pin until you have a fine powder.
Pour powder in a large, 2-3 quart pot.
Next, add pineapple juice, apple cider, orange juice, cloves, and cinnamon sticks, stir 2-3 times, then place on heat and bring to a boil.
Once boiling, reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes. Strain out cinnamon sticks and cloves, and serve warm.
This cider is exactly what you've been waiting for this Holiday season. The spiced taste of apples, cinnamon, and cloves will fill your entire home with a winter wonderland experience! The best addition to this wassail is definitely the apricot. Who would've known that a fruit we only associate with summer would be the perfect Holiday secret ingredient!
It just isn't winter without a warm mug of wassail, and this is the perfect recipe to help melt the cold away.
