I love layers! Whether it's mounds and mounds of blankets on a comfortable bed, jacket, sweater, and scarf on a chilly fall evening, or a sky high, chocolate smothered cake, layers always seem to make good things even better.
It's this love for layers, and for everything Fall, that led me to this question: How can I make a traditional fall-time treat even better? The answer? By adding layers of course! And that's exactly what we did today. Combining the sweet taste of savory cinnamon rolls with the Autumn classic flavor of Caramel apples, I've created to perfect dish for any fall morning, Harvest celebration, or simple after-school snack. But what makes this treat stand out from the crowd is the thing I love most...layers! Check out our Apple Caramel Pastry Rolls!
3/4 cup Milk, warmed
1/3 cup Sugar
1 tsp Vanilla
1 tsp Salt
3 1/4 cups Honeyville Alta Artisan Flour, divided
1 Tbsp SAF Yeast
1 cup Butter, softened
1 Tbsp Cinnamon
2 Tbsp Sugar
2 cups Honeyville Freeze Dried Apples
8 cubes Caramel, diced
In your BOSCH Styline Mixer or BOSCH Universal Mixer, add the following ingredients in this order: milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla, salt, 1 cup flour, and yeast. Turn mixer to #2 setting until all ingredients are completely mixed. With mixer still mixing, add 2 cups flour and knead in machine for 3-4 minutes.
Remove dough and place on a hard surface. In a medium bowl, whip butter and 1/4 cup flour together.
Roll dough out into a rectangle shape, then smear whipped butter on top.
Fold dough like a letter, in three parts, then wrap in plastic wrap and place in refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Remove from refrigerator and roll out opposite of the original folds. Fold again like a letter, in three parts, then wrap and place back in the refrigerator for another 30 minutes.
Repeat this process two more times.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a medium bowl, re-hydrate apples by soaking in water until soft, then draining excess liquid.
Dice up caramels.
Mix cinnamon and sugar in a bowl.
Remove dough from refrigerator, roll out in a rectangle shape. Smear the top with melted butter, then sprinkle cinnamon/sugar mix on top. Spread apples and caramels along the top, then roll up the dough, similar to how you roll up cinnamon roll dough.
Slice rolled up dough and place pastry rolls in a greased, circular cake pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 18 minutes, or until tops are gold brown. Remove and serve.
These delicious pastry rolls are packed full of caramel apple flavor and texture! The two tastes blend perfectly together with the cinnamon and sugar. The amazing layers show through the entire dough, giving this dish the perfect look, and taste, for any fall-time dessert.
I love layers, and you will too with these delicious Apple Caramel Pastry Rolls!
