Homemade Fortune Cookies Recipe

What's not to love about Fortune Cookies? Sweet, delicious, and full of excitement and charm, these treats from the far east fill us with complete wonder and awe! Whether young or just young at heart, there is something magical and exciting about cracking one open after a delicious meal, giddy to see what the secret message is inside! Plus, they're just down right tasty!

Yes, I think every one of us is a huge fan of the Fortune Cookie, so you can imagine my excitement when I heard that you can make Fortune Cookies using a simple ingredient found in most everyone's Food Storage Pantry. One of our tried-and-true followers on Facebook, Glen Cazenave, let us know that not only could you use our amazing Powdered Egg Whites to make Fortune Cookies, but that these cookies were simple, easy to bake, and mouth-watering delicious! Well, you know I couldn't pass up the opportunity. I wrote back and now, thanks to Glenn, we have a recipe that you know is going to be a new addition to your family cookbook! Print off a set of your favorite fortunes, it's time to make Homemade Fortune Cookies!

Ingredients:
8 tsp Honeyville Powdered Egg Whites + 8 Tbsp Water
1 cup Sugar
1 cup Honeyville Alta Artisan Flour
1/4 tsp Salt
3 tsp Heavy Cream
1/2 tsp Vanilla
1/2 tsp Almond Extract
4 Tbsp Butter, melted

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine egg white powder, water, and sugar, and beat with an electric hand mixer until just combined. Add flour and salt and mix in. Add butter, heavy cream, vanilla, and almond extract and mix until all ingredients are completely incorporated and you have a soft batter. Make sure not to over mix!

Pouring-Batter

On a cookie sheet sprayed with cooking spray, drop Tablespoons full of batter.

Batter-On-Pan

Using the back of the Tablespoon, spread batter in a 5 inch circle. Because you're going to be folding the cookies as soon as you take them out, and time is of the essence, it's best to only cook about 4 cookies at a time.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes, or until 1/4 to 1/2 inch of the edges of the cookies turn golden brown.

Message-in-Cookie

Remove the cookies immediately from the pan with a spatula one at a time. Add your message to the cookie, then fold sideways like a taco.

Folding-Cookie

Using the lip of a glass or mug, fold the back of the folded cookie around the lip of the cup to form the cookie shape. Place cook in a muffin pan or on a plate and move to the next cookie. Remember, these cookies will be super hot, so you may want to use gloves and work very, very fast!

Finished-Cookie

Once cookies are cooled, serve!

This is everything you love about Fortune Cookies and more! The taste, texture, and aroma is exactly what you've been looking for! As the cookie cools, the outer layer gets that perfect crispness you've come to expect in these cookies, while the message stays protected and ready for discovery inside. Bake these up for any party, gathering, or fun get together, and see the joy on people's faces as they see what you've created!
