Caramel Apple Pinwheel Recipe

Caramel-Apple-Pinwheel

Apple season is officially here and frankly, I couldn't be happier. The sweet aroma and crisp taste of a delicious apple is everything I remember and love about the fall. Combine that taste with a mouth-watering, home-baked treat, and you've got the makings of an autumn masterpiece!

Today's recipe is the ultimate in apple-baking goodness! It's so amazing that we really weren't sure what to call it. I mean, it's kind of like bread, kind of like a pastry, stuffed to the brim with our Freeze Dried Apples, and drizzled with a delicious, caramel glaze. After some deep thinking and delicious taste testing, we finally came to the conclusion - Caramel Apple Pinwheel. Just like the name states, this soon-to-be-autumn classic will send your taste buds spinning!

For today's recipe we used our all new BOSCH Styline Mixer. Let me tell you, this thing is amazing! Not only does it look super sleek and sophisticated sitting on your kitchen counter, it's an awesome mixer! It mixed our dough with the simplest of ease, and the splash guard that comes with it kept all our ingredients from spilling on to the counter or even on us! And for how small it is, I was very impressed with how well it kneaded our dough, with what seemed to be the simplest of ease. If you're looking for the perfect mixer for those smaller, simpler jobs, this is the one for you!

But I digress, it's time to get back to the main purpose of our post, the food! Grab a can of Freeze Dried Apples, it's time to create your own Caramel Apple Pinwheel!

Ingredients:
2 cups Honeyville Alta Artisan Flour
1 cups Milk, warmed
2 Tbsp Butter
2 Tbsp Sugar
1 1/2 tsp SAF Yeast
1/4 tsp Cinnamon
1/2 tsp Salt
3 cups Honeyville Freeze Dried Apples

Topping:
3 Tbsp Butter
1/4 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 cup Sugar

Caramel Glaze:
2 Tbsp Butter
1/4 cup Brown Sugar
1/2 cup Apple Cider
1/2 cup Powdered Sugar

Directions:
In your BOSCH Styline Mixer, combine flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and yeast, and mix together using the dough hook attachment.

Dough

In a separate bowl, melt butter and ad warm milk. Turn the mixer on low and slowly add milk mixture to flour mixture. Once dough begins to form, knead for an additional 3-4 minutes. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let sit for 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Rolled-Out-Dough

When dough is finished rising, remove and roll out on to a hard surface.

Sliced-Dough

Using a pizza cutter, cut slices into the dough.

Re-hydrated-Apples

Re-hydrate apples by soaking in water until soft, then drain any excess liquid.

First-Piece

Taking a greased 8-inch circle cake pan and a slice of dough, wrap dough in a spiral in the middle of the pan, around some apples.

Second-Piece

Line the outside of the dough with apples, then wrap them with another dough strip.

Pinwheel

Repeat this process until you've completely filled the pan.

Baked-Pinwheel

Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.

Cinnamon-Sugar-Topping

Remove, and while still hot, brush with melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon/sugar mix.

While pinwheel is cooling, begin your glaze.

Butter-Melting

In a large pot, melt butter and add brown sugar.

Brown-Sugar-Boiling

Bring mixture to a boil, then turn down to simmer and add apple cider. Remove from heat and mix in powdered sugar.

Caramel-Drizzled

While still warm, drizzle on top of pinwheel. Once cooled, slice like a pie, then serve.

Apple-Pinwheel

If apple season could have a taste, this would be it! The sweet, delicious aroma of fresh baked apples and bread, combined with the creaminess of the caramel glaze, gives this treat a taste your palette will not be able to resist. Make sure to double this recipe as each slice will disappear quicker than you think and your cravings will be left wanting more. Best of all, this dessert looks simply awesome! Serve this up for any fall-time party or get together.

Apple season is official here! Don't let it pass by without baking and enjoying this awesome treat!
