Pizza Waffles Recipe

What's your favorite time of the day? Growing up, mine was always that mid-afternoon slot. Why you ask? That was the time school got out! We'd rush home each day to be greeted with the best mid-afternoon present a mom could give her children...after-school snacks!

While my mom was the sensation of snack time, creating delectable masterpieces every day, she never came across today's recipe. Truthfully, I wish she did! I mean, what kid wouldn't want to walk into the door, after a long, hard day of school, only to find two of their favorite foods combined into one amazing treat?! If there was a King of after-school snacks, this would be it! Grab your waffle iron, we're making Pizza Waffles!

2 cups Honeyville Alta Artisan Bread Flour
2 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Baking Soda
1/2 tsp Salt
1 1/2 tsp Oregano
1 1/2 tsp Basil
1/4 tsp Red Pepper Flakes
3/4 tsp Garlic Powder
1 cup Honeyville Freeze Dried Mozzarella Cheese
1/2 cup Honeyville Freeze Dried Sausage
2 Eggs
1 1/2 cups Milk
2 Tbsp Olive Oil

Dipping Sauce:
1/2 cup Honeyville Tomato Powder + 3/4 cup Water
1 tsp Oregano
1 tsp Basil
1 Tbsp Sugar

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, and garlic powder, and whisk together.

In two separate bowls, re-hydrate sausage and cheese by soaking in water until soft, then draining any excess liquid.

In a medium bowl, combine eggs, milk, and oil, and whisk together.

Add all ingredients together and whisk together until a thick batter forms.

Preheat waffle iron, then add 1/2 cup batter and bake until steam is no longer coming out of iron.

Remove waffle from iron. Recipe should make 4-5 waffles.

Make dipping sauce by combining all ingredients together and whisking in a large mixing bowl.

These waffles are full of all the flavor and taste you love in a nice, hot pizza pie! The blend of Italian spices, combined with the sausage and cheese, give you the perfect afternoon snack to get you over those rough school blues. The dipping sauce is the perfect addition to this already impressive snack! Serve it up anyway you like it. You're sure to have many fans flocking for more!

Let's make snack-time the most exciting time of the day. With waffles like these, why wouldn't it be?

Hi you have a gluten-free version of this?

Hi Jerri-Lynn!

No, we haven't yet tried to create a gluten-free version of this recipe. If you decide to make one, let us know how it turns out! I'm thinking our Fine Rice Flour would probably be a great one to use to test this out! Thanks for the question!
