Louisiana Meat Pies














If you could create the perfect meal, what would it be? Would it be something grand and extravagant, or something simple and easy? Would it be something you could enjoy any time of the year, or just for Holidays or special occasions? What would be your top ingredients and, of course, what would it taste like?

For me, the perfect meal would have to be simple to make, but with a taste that was gourmet all the way. It would have to be a dish I could enjoy any time of the year, but also perfect for any party, get-together, Holiday, or event. It would have to something I could sit and slowly savor, as well as something I could simply grab-and-go. I know, sounds like a dish impossible to make, right? Wrong!

Using our amazing Freeze Dried veggies and meats, particularly our beef dices and sausage, and adapting a recipe for a traditional Southern Dish, we've created a meal that brings together all the qualities and traits you look for in both a gourmet and easy-to-make dinner. Best of all, the whole thing is wrapped in a buttery, flaky crust, which means no utensils required! Think I'm crazy? Wait until you try our Louisiana Meat Pies!

Ingredients (Crust):
1/2 cup cold Water
2 1/2 cups Honeyville Swiss Pastry Flour
3/4 cup Butter, cubed
4 Tbsp Shortening
4 Tbsp Sugar

Filling:
1 Tbsp Butter
2 cups Chicken Broth
1/2 cup Honeyville Freeze Dried Onions
1/2 cup Honeyville Freeze Dried Bell Peppers
1/2 cup Honeyville Dehydrated Celery
1 Garlic Clove, minced
1 cup Honeyville Freeze Dried Beef Dices
1 cup Honeyville Freeze Dried Sausage
1 tsp Salt
1 tsp Pepper
1/4 cup Heavy Cream
4 Tbsp Ultra Gel

Directions:
First, make your pie crust.

In your BOSCH Food Processor attachment, add water, flour, butter, shortening, and sugar, and blend until a sticky dough forms.

Remove dough from processor, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill in refrigerator for 3-4 hours.

Right before the 4 hour mark, preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Filling Cooking











In a large skillet, bring chicken broth to a boil. Add onions, bell peppers, celery, garlic, beef, sausage, salt, and pepper, and stir until all ingredients are fully incorporated. pour in heavy cream, stir once, then turn heat off. add ultra gel and stir until completely incorporated. Remove from heat and allow to cool.

Dough Rolled Out











Remove dough from refrigerator and, on a floured surface, roll dough out.

Cutting Dough











Using a ramekin or bowl, cut out rough dough slices.

Dough Circle











These will be the crusts of your pies.

Filling on Dough











Take a dough circle and place on a greased baking tray. Scoop out a healthy amount of the filling and place on top.

Taking another dough circle, place on top of the filling.

Crimping Edges











Using a fork, crimp the edges.

Brushed with Egg Wash











Slice a hole in the top for heat and air to be released during baking. Brush an egg wash on the tops and around the edges.

Baked Pies











Bake in the oven at 400 degrees for 30 minutes, or until tops are golden brown. Remove and allow to cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Meat Pie











Be warned, these pies are jam packed full of flavor that is sure to make your knees weak and your mouth water with every bite! The beef dices and sausage cook up perfectly in this dish and give the perfect amount of taste and texture. The vegetables are incorporated wonderfully, but, by far, the star of this dish would have to be the crust. Full of all that buttery taste you love, this crust is the perfect combination of flaky and smooth. Each bite is a heavenly trip for your palate, leaving you to wonder if you could ever enjoy another meal again.
