Blueberry Dumplings Recipe

I love secret ingredients, don't you? They seem to add a mystery and excitement to any recipe. It really doesn't matter what that secret ingredient is. The fact that it's a "secret" all of a sudden makes it super desirable. With every bite you find yourself searching your palate for the precise flavor that will unlock that "secret ingredient!"

Well, today's recipe is just that. It wasn't enough to make super delicious dumplings. It wasn't enough to use Freeze Dried Blueberries. It wasn't even enough to bake the entire meal using our versatile and exceptional scone mix. No, we had to bring in another super secret ingredient. Though I can't tell you the exact name, I'll give you a hint. It's a citrus-flavored, caffeinated beverage that many of you enjoy on a daily basis! Still unsure? Maybe the photo below might help out. But remember, it's a secret!

Pretty cool, huh! And believe me, one can of this highly recognized citrus soda gives these dumplings a taste that will blow your socks off! Don't believe me? Well, let's get baking then!

Ingredients:
1 cup Warm Water
2 1/2 tsp Dry Active Yeast
1 cup (2 sticks) Butter
1 1/2 cups Sugar
1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
1 can (12 Fluid Ounces) of the Secret Citrus Soda!

Directions:
First, you need to make your scone mix.

Start by combining yeast and warm water in a large mixing bowl. Let yeast activate for 5-8 minutes.

Add scone mix and knead until soft dough begins to form. Knead for about 5 minutes.

Place dough ball back in mixing bowl, cover, and let rise for 20 minutes.

Once dough has risen, preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Soak blueberries in a large bowl to re-hydrate. Once re-hydrated, drain excess water.

Remove dough and with a bench scraper, cut dough into small, ping-pong ball-sized dough balls.

Take a piece of dough and flatten it out.

Using a spoon, drop a scoopful of blueberries in the center of the dough.

Roll the dough into a ball, pinching the bottoms to seal in the blueberries, and place in a greased, 9x13 pan.

Repeat process for each dough ball.

Once pan is full, begin to make your sauce.

In a large sauce pan, melt butter and stir in cinnamon and sugar.

Bring to a simmer.

Pour sauce over the top of the dumplings.

Now, here is where that "Secret Ingredient" comes in to play! Pour 1 can of our secret citrus soda over the dumplings.

Once the dumplings are fully coated, place pan in the oven and bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes.

Remove from oven an serve.

These dumplings bake up super moist and delicious. The smell of the cinnamon and sugar will fill your entire house, bringing family members into the kitchen from all parts! And the taste? Well, let's just say you better be sitting down when you take your first bite! You're legs won't be able to hold you after the sweet, delicious, buttery taste hits your mouth! Be ready for seconds, thirds, and maybe even fourths!

Believe me, "Secret Ingredients" have never tasted so good!
