Homemade Macaroni and Cheese Recipe

Who doesn't absolutely love a fresh bowl of homemade Macaroni and Cheese? It's a regular go-to for a winter comfort meal, even Kevin from "Home Alone" knew that, if you remember that scene just before Harry and Marve try to break into his well-defended home. At any rate, Macaroni and Cheese is hands down one of those classic comfort meals that you never can seem to grow out of. This recipe is one of the best homemade Macaroni and Cheese recipes you can find and we're pretty sure you'll fall in love with it!

This homemade macaroni and cheese recipe is actually pretty simple, but a few little additions go a long way in setting this macaroni and cheese recipe apart. Because it's a pretty simple recipe it's a great way to get your kiddos involved for a fun activity that they can enjoy almost as much as the meal.

Let's get started on this macaroni and cheese recipe, shall we?
1 tsp Chicken Bouillon
1/2 tsp onion powder
2 tbsps all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cup whole or 2% milk, separated
1 tbsp butter
Dash of Pepper
7 tsp Honeyville Powdered Cheese (if you don't have powdered cheese just add another 1 - 1 1/2 cups of shredded cheese)
1 cup Cheddar, Monterey Jack shredded cheese, or Colby shredded cheese. 

1. Bring 3 cups water to a boil in a saucepan. Once boiling add the macaroni. Cover and simmer until the macaroni is al dente (or still slightly undercooked or firm), usually about 6-8 minutes. Then drain and set aside.
2. Place 1 cup of milk, powdered cheese (if not using powdered cheese just continue on), and the chicken bullion in a medium-size saucepan on medium heat. While the milk is warming take the other 1/2 cup of milk and put it in a bowl with the flour and whisk together. Whisk until all lumps disappear. By this time your warming milk should be ready, wait until it just starts to steam, then add the milk and flour mixture and continue to whisk until it begins to thicken. This usually takes 2-3 minutes.
3. Turn the heat to low and begin to add the shredded cheese of your choice. Once all the cheese is added mix in the onion powder, Chef Tess Seasoning, dash of pepper and butter.
4. Place the macaroni in a large dish and begin adding in the cheese sauce. Continue to stir until the Macaroni and Cheese begins to thicken. If you prefer a more creamy macaroni and cheese you can add a little bit of milk to thin it out.
5. Dish it up and serve when still warm for a delicious comfort meal.

Want to Bake It?
Who doesn't like baked macaroni and cheese? If you have the time it's a great way to spice up a macaroni and cheese dish! Place the macaroni and cheese in a casserole dish, covered. Bake in the oven for 25-50 minutes at 350°F. Remove the dish from the oven and uncover. Lightly add a little butter and top with breadcrumbs and bake uncovered for another 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden-brown.

And then enjoy.....a huge bowl of homemade creamy Macaroni and Cheese!!!
