Berry Trifle Recipe

My family LOVES this dessert!  It's simple enough to throw together that anyone could do it.  It's refreshing, not overly sweet, and looking at it now makes me want to forgo any other food plans I had for the day and just find a shady spot and finish off the rest!  The original recipe came from kraftfoods.com

Ingredients:
5 c. total Honeyville Freeze Dried Berries (I used a combination of  1 c. Blueberries, 2 c. Raspberries, and 2 c. Strawberries)
1 and 1/2 cups Honeyville Vanilla Pudding Mix
3 and 1/2 cups prepared Honeyville Milk Alternative
4 cups prepared Honeyville Insta-Whip, divided
1 prepared Angel Food Cake
3 Tbsp Orange Juice
1/4 tsp Almond Extract

Directions:
First rehydrate the freeze dried berries.  Once fully hydrated drain well and set aside.  Then take the angel food cake and cut it into 1.5 inch cubes.  Mix your orange juice and almond extract together and drizzle the liquid over the cake cubes and toss to coat.

Next if you are going to use Honeyville's new Insta-Whip (available in the Retail Stores (brick and mortar) only at this point) make it now by combining 1 and 1/2 cups ice cold water to 1 and 1/2 cups powder and using an electric mixer beat on high until stiff peaks form, about 3 to 5 minutes.   Set aside.  If you want to use Cool Whip or another frozen topping that's fine just make sure it's thawed and ready to use-no mixing necessary.

In a separate bowl make your vanilla pudding by adding the pudding mix and prepared milk alternative.

Whisk until smooth.  Fold in 2 cups of the prepared Insta-Whip or Cool Whip.

Now begin layering!  I layered everything in a Trifle Bowl but this could easily be portioned out into individual servings.  Start the layers by adding half of the cake cubes.

Next layer use half of the  hydrated berries.

Next spoon in half of the pudding, carefully spreading all the way to the edges.

Repeat layers with remaining ingredients.  Top with remaining Insta-Whip or Cool Whip.

Chill until ready to serve.

Dish up and enjoy!

The flavors really meld together and it is so light and refreshing and just YUMMY!  This would be a great addition to your Independence Day Picnic or BBQ.  Your taste buds, family, and friends will be so glad you did!  What are your plans for the 4th of July this year?

Happy Eating!
