Southern Strawberry Biscuits Recipe

I love comfort food, don't you? Is there really anything better than it? Whenever you're sick, upset, depressed, down, stressed, or just plain worn out, your favorite meal always seems to mend your spirit like no medicine or bandage could.

To me, the birthplace of comfort food would have to be the South! Think about it, this is the place where the phrase "Down-home Cookin'" came from. There are so many great Southern meals to choose from, but by far nothing is more comforting than Southern Biscuits.

Today we're going to take two Honeyville favorites, our Honeyville All Purpose Biscuit and Pancake Mix, along with our Honeyville Freeze Dried Strawberries, to create a true Southern Masterpiece, Southern Strawberry Biscuits! Enjoy!

Ingredients (Biscuits):
2 1/4 cups Honeyville All Purpose Biscuit & Pancake Mix
1 1/3 cups Honeyville Freeze Dried Strawberries
1 cup Milk

Ingredients (Glaze):
1 cup Powdered Sugar
4 tsp Water
1 tsp Vanilla

Directions:
Preheat Oven to 450 degrees.

Rehydrate Freeze Dried Strawberries as directed.

Combine All Purpose Biscuit Mix and Milk and mix together until soft dough forms.

Roll out on a floured surface.

Spread rehydrated strawberries over the rolled out dough.

Fold dough so that strawberries are completely folded in to the dough.

This is where things can get messy! Using your hands, and doing it over your mixing bowl, hand-mix the strawberries into the dough until they are completely combined with the dough. You'll need to add 1/2 cup All Purpose Biscuit Mix in order to return it to the soft dough texture, since adding the strawberries will make  the dough very wet.

Once Strawberries have been added and dough is in a soft, but not runny state, roll dough out on a floured surface. Make sure to flour your area very well, including rubbing flour into your rolling pin.

Take a bowl or mason jar lid and cut out your biscuits. I made these ones a bit bigger, but you can make them any size you'd like.

Place biscuits on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 450 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes, or until tops are lightly browned.

While the biscuits are baking, you can begin to make your glaze. Combine Powdered Sugar, water, and vanilla and whisk until ingredients are completely combined. Once biscuits are done baking, remove and spoon or brush glaze on immediately. This will allow the heat of the biscuits to bake in the glaze.

These biscuits are extremely flavorful and the glaze gives them a sweetness you can't find anywhere else. Enjoy them for Breakfast, as a snack, or even a delicious dessert. Believe me, once you try these, you'll have an all new "Comfort" food!
