Yogurt Bites Rice Krispies

Can you tell I am on a little Yogurt Bites kick? My kiddos just love these things! So yesterday we tried making the all-famous Rice Krispies Treats and adding Honeyville Yogurt Bites! It tasted like Rice Krispies with candy in it! What kid (or adult, let's be serious!) wouldn't like candy (but, REALLY YOGURT) in their Rice Krispies Treats?
Good ole Rice Krispies Recipe:
3 Tbls Butter/Margarine
4 cups Miniature Marshmellows
6 cups Rice Krispies
Honeyville Freeze Dried Yogurt Bites (Desired Amount)

In a saucepan on low heat melt the butter/margarine. Add the marshmellows and stir until completely melted.
Remove from heat and add in Honeyville Yogurt Bites and Rice Krispies. Stir well.
Put mixture in a 13x9 COATED pan and spread evenly.

My thoughts: the Yogurt Bites seriously taste like candy! The longer you wait to eat, the softer they become.

Tomorrow, I'll post the last thing we did with the Yogurt Bites this week.

Make your own Trail Mix

With Honeyville's Freeze Dried Fruits and Veggies it is super easy to make your own trail mix! What a healthy, easy snack! You could use it for an after school snack, camping (it is the camping season, right?), something to grab for the road, or even munch on during work. If you wanted you could even pre-bag several of these so they are ready to go anytime you need them.
I could think of several varieties, but today, I tried two and they were both delicious!

#1 attempt:
Honeyville Freeze Dried Bananas
Honeyville Freeze Dried Mangos
Honeyville Freeze Dried Pineapple
Honeyville Freeze Dried Strawberry Yogurt Bites
(I put peanuts in mine after the picture was taken. I liked it a lot with peanuts, my hubby voted against them)

Chef Tess Guest Post: Meatballs and Marinara Recipe

We love it when Chef Tess shares her recipes and wisdom with us!  She's been making food storage magic using the Freeze Dried Ground Beef and Tomato Powder.  Take it away Chef Tess...
Hello my darlings! It's always a giant treat to come and play  work with the Cousins! Being the chef for Honeyville is such a fun job and I can't believe how many adventures I am having writing the cookbook and preparing new and delicious meals using their foods!
Today I want to share a simple and easy dinner that is ready in 30 minutes or less using just food storage.  Freeze Dried Ground Beef is interesting stuff isn't it? The Benefits of Freeze Dried Meat are pretty amazing and the shelf life is 10-15 years if kept in a cool dry place. I cook with it a lot more than I ever thought I would just because it is so convenient and I love developing recipes that people can really use. I had a gal ask me what I do with the ground beef if I wanted to make meatballs or a meatloaf and I wanted to share my simple method for that.  I've also got some great tips on How to Use Tomato Powder to make an Instant Marinara sauce with excellent flavor and a 10-15 years shelf life! That's awesome right?! Usually a good marinara takes a long time to develop that flavor. It's especially amazing if you can a make it so delicious your family won't mind eating it any night of the week.

Fruit Pancakes Recipe

Blueberries are typically the fruit of choice when adding fruit to pancake batter.  However, today I had some Freeze Dried Apricots on hand so I tried them out.  Super delicious!  Honeyville's Buttermilk Pancake mix is so versatile-it is great as is or one can add in things and it performs awesome too!

Apricot Pancakes
Ingredients:
1 cup Water
3/4 cup Honeyville Freeze Dried Apricots
1 cup Honeyville Buttermilk Pancake & Waffle Mix

Directions:
In a bowl combine water and apricots.  Let sit 1 minute to allow apricots to rehydrate.  Do NOT drain the water.  Add the pancake mix and stir until fairly smooth.  The batter will have some lumps from the apricots and mix.  Pour 1/4 cup of batter onto a greased, preheated griddle (about 375 degrees).  Cook pancakes until bubbles appear on the top and the edges have a dry appearance; about one minute, turn just once and cook for one more minute.

I topped my stack of pancakes with more apricots that I had hydrated while the pancakes cooked and a drizzle of maple syrup and some whipped cream.  Not everyday do I put whipped cream on my pancakes but we had some leftover from Mother's Day and I can't waste it right?!  I think some yogurt on top or some flavored honey would be dynamite as well.

What is your favorite fruit and pancake combo?

Happy Eating!

Shirley J's Coconutty Macaroon Mix

Okay, so I APPROVE! Recently a customer left a comment about how these are amazing, so I just needed to try them myself. I APPROVE! Easy AND amazing! I really don't have much to say about them or much of a recipe. The recipe is: add hot water and let them sit for five minutes and bake em up. How simple is that? You don't need much baking knowledge to conquer these babies and they taste like you are a professional! Next time you are in the Retail Store, pick up a bag of these delicious cookies! (I dipped some of mine in chocolate....even better!)

Creamy Turkey Chili Recipe

Soup season it seems like is almost over, but you'll want to make an exception for this recipe!  The recipe is based of this White Chicken Chili recipe from oneshetwoshe.com that my family loves, but I decided to try to use my food storage to make it.  Two thumbs up!

Creamy Turkey Chili
Ingredients:
1 and 1/2 cups cooked Colorado Beans
1 and 1/2 cups Honeyville Freeze Dried Monterey Jack Cheese
1 cup Honeyville Freeze Dried Turkey
1 Tbsp Honeyville Dehydrated Green Onions
1 (2 oz) packet of Shirley J's Whisk Bliss
1 (4 0z) can diced Green Chilies
2 (14.5 oz) can Chicken Broth (or use water and Shirley J's Chicken Bouillon)
1/4 tsp Garlic Powder
1/4 tsp Dried Oregano
1/4 tsp Cumin
Salt and Pepper to taste

Directions:
In a medium pot, combine all ingredients except Monterey Jack Cheese.  Bring to a boil then reduce heat and gently simmer for 10 minutes.  Turn heat to low and add cheese.  Stir until the cheese is melted and smooth about 5-7 minutes.  Top with additional Green Onions as garnish.  Makes about 4 servings.

I liked the pop of color the Colorado Beans gave but you definitely could use Great Northern Beans instead.  I have a daughter who is learning her colors so it is nice to have bites with different colors for her to name.  My husband and I like to crush a few tortilla chips over the top too.

We have done a couple of posts about cooking beans (Electric Pressure Cooking Class and Soaking and Cooking Beans).  Even though we eat dinner everyday I sometimes forget to plan for something until about 4pm.  Therefore I really like using the Electric Pressure Cooker--saves me time and my dinner!

What is your favorite soup?

Happy Eating!
